Pelvic Pain Q & A

Please print and bring this questionnaire prior to arriving for your pelvic pain appointment.

What is pelvic pain?

Chronic pelvic pain is the pain in the area between your belly button and mid-upper thighs and between your hips that lasts for 6 months or longer, including pain with intercourse (sex). It may or may not be affected by your menstrual cycles.

Chronic pelvic pain often starts with a trigger, such as a bladder infection, or endometriosis. Even after the initial trigger has been treated, pain can stick around for years. This is due to up-regulation of the pain receptors in the pelvis and brain. For more information, please see “Where is my pelvic pain really coming from?”

In most cases, there are multiple causes of pain. The goal of treatment is to reduce your pain and other symptoms and improve your quality of life.

A visit to Boardwalk Obstetrics & Gynecology is critical in assessing your condition, and the cause of your pelvic pain.
